Since our inception on 2 January 2002, ETPL has been at the forefront of science commercialisation in Singapore. As the commercialisation arm of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), we have supported A*STAR in transforming the economy by driving innovation and commercializing R&D.

In the last decade, we have provided a full suite of technology transfer services catered to the needs of our industry partners and the research community. We have grown knowledge capital, broadened our networks and reputation, come to understand and drive this unique business better and forged new competencies. All this has translated into sharper, focused, more strategic partnerships, or what we call Innovation Partnering to deliver impactful commercial value to Singapore – through licensing deals, spin-off companies and patent protection. Our outreach initiatives encourage entrepreneurship and contribute to a supportive ecosystem that will grow more enterprise activities.

Our commercialization efforts have also seen tangible outcomes. We are now managing a portfolio of more than 3,400 active patents and applications, has granted more than 800 licenses for A*STAR technologies and have created a portfolio of more than 50 start-up companies.

Technology Overview

Bio-Acrylic acid is a must sought after green chemical. The various applications for acrylic acid is one the key driver for this demand. With the availability of a cost effective bio-acrylic acid, it will reduce the carbon footprint of many production process that uses acrylic acid as their raw material. In view of this need, our scientists have invented this cost effective and environmentally friendly method of product acrylic acid from bio-glycerol.

Our Value Proposition

This method produces bio-acrylic acid from glycerol with a yield as high as 84% in a simple two steps reaction. In addition, these two steps can be carried out in a continuous manner that could increase the efficiency of the scale up process. The catalyst system is highly stable with yield higher than 80 percent after 100 hours of reaction. In short, this is a highly cost effective and green method of producing bio-acrylic acid.

System and method of Unified Configurable Architecture (UCA)

This invention provides a method and system for flexible and scalable realization of enterprise business process and information management (eBPIM) systems through system configuration. The system of the said invention is the Unified Configurable Architecture (UCA) developed on .NET programming platform.

The method of the said invention consists of UCA structure and configuration. The UCA supports the flexible and scalable deployment of operational processes and functions subject to varied requirements by different user companies. Such an ability enables one software system to generate a large variety of solutions required in the targeted application domain, and is hence deemed essential for the realization of on-demand services.

Our Innovation

  1. An eBPIM system is constructed by modules. Modules can be added, modified, or removed individually without affecting the other modules, enabling system scale-up, scale-down, or changes flexibly;
  2. Each module is developed by configuration, rather than customized coding;
  3. When a module is created, the module is integrated with the relevant modules by work and data flows;
  4. The queue plus work prioritization method integrated with the module-based system construction method.

Potential Applications

The UCA can be applied to realize eBPIM systems for the management of work and information flows between departments and individual staff. The information system generated by UCA can be for use by a particular function of a company, e.g. inventory management, or an end-to-end system encompassing the customer requirements, quotation, work order, production processes, procurement, delivery order, and customer feedbacks. There are no particular restrictions to industry or business types in the use of UCA.
